The purpose of the TiDE network is to bring together information and research on toxins in desert environments, and to inform the public and governments on the risks posed by toxins in desert environments. Aligned with the network is a research project studying cyanobacterial toxins in the desert environments of the State of Qatar. Based on our preliminary research on cyanotoxins present in desert crust and their potential to be found in airborne dust, we are studying the factors that influence toxin production in desert crust material. This project will act as a basis to the ground work for bringing together researchers studying desert toxins and desert ecology.
